Managing Your Mental Health during COVID-19:

We’re living in unprecedented times and it feels like the world has changed. It may seem like every day we are bombarded with more and more bad news about the new world we’re living in. We are social creatures by nature and are not used to being quarantined and distanced from our friends and family.

​This is a very stressful and anxiety-inducing time for all of us. We have all become vulnerable to a decline in our mental health. But what about those of us who are already struggling with anxiety and depression, perhaps as a result of injuries sustained in an accident or a fall? These vulnerable individuals are even more susceptible to suffer more significant mental health issues.

Things that may be stressing you out during this time can include:

Fear and worry about your health and the health of your loved ones

​Changes in your sleep or eating patterns

​Difficulty maintaining focus and concentrating

​Worsening of chronic health problems

​​ Increased use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs.

Here are some tips to help manage you manage your stress and anxiety during the COVID-19 outbreak:

Take breaks from media . Constant watching, reading, or listening to news stories (including social media posts) about the pandemic can be very upsetting.

​Take care of your body . Take deep breaths, meditate, or stretch. Try to exercise at home, keep yourself hydrated. Go for a walk if it’s safe to do so while maintaining social distancing. Eat healthy food, limit your alcohol intake and get lots of sleep.

​Express your feelings to someone you trust, that can validate your concerns and worries, and can give you peace. Journal your thoughts and write them down.

​Talk to professional If you were actively seeing a therapist/psychiatrist/psychologist prior to the pandemic, now is more important than ever to continue your treatment .
